SOUTH SUDAN: President Kiir returns to Juba after visits to DR Congo and Angola

Juba, Wednesday (March 27, 2024) – H.E.  President Salva Kiir Mayardit has returned to Juba after a peace mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola.

In his capacity as the Chairperson of East African Community (EAC), President Kiir toured the Great Lakes Region to drum up support for peace and security in the region, with focus on the conflict in the Eastern DR Congo. 

Speaking to the media upon arrival at the Juba International Airport, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Minister Dr. James Pitia Morgan, said the tour was to highlight the importance of peace and stability in East Africa and the Great Lakes region. 

The President also engaged with his counterparts on matters of cooperation with DR Congo and Angola.

The Heads of State also discussed ways to restore peace and end conflict in the neighboring Sudan.
